Freedom for Aung San Suu Kyi
by Random House Australia on 17 November 2010
Myanmar’s (Burma) pro-democracy leader, Aung San Suu Kyi was released after seven years of house arrest earlier in the week.
Ms Aung San Suu Kyi gave a brief address upon her release, to more than a thousand of her supporters. She has vowed to continue her work in bringing democracy to the military controlled region, “I’m going to work for national reconciliation. That is a very important thing” she said in her address.
Her years of struggle in exile have been documented in the book, THE VOICE OF HOPE, which was the result of many secret and dangerous meetings between Ms Aung San Suu Kyi and journalist Alan Clements. The book is a collection of her views on politics and human rights issues, as well as her philosophy and her non-violent approach to democracy.
