It was a crazy day today. There are so many last minute orders going through the warehouse from bookshops all trying to stay in stock of the most popular books this side of Christmas. It’s such a great time of year watching the amazing sales and very exciting that everything seems to be selling; particularly, Judy Nunn’s latest book - Maralinga and Masterchef the Cookbook, Ray Martin’s autobiography and the new Ranger’s Apprentice novel, Halt’s Peril.
I did however find time to have lunch with my favourite person at Random House, Linsay Knight, our Head of Children’s Publishing. Linsay was telling me about her family tradition of putting the Christmas pudding in the shower – something about keeping it moist and cool. Anyway, I could listen to her stories all day. They often border on the unreal but are told with such conviction and insight that I know they’re true and all the more remarkable because of it.
Tonight’s the big game! Random House fields a Slow Pitch Softball team called The Wild Things and all going well we have a chance of making the finals.
