Synopsis
Romantic, liberating and totally addictive, Fifty Shades of Grey is a novel that will obsess you, possess you, and stay with you for ever.
When literature student Anastasia Steele interviews successful entrepreneur Christian Grey, she finds him very attractive and deeply intimidating. Convinced that their meeting went badly, she tries to put him out of her mind – until he turns up at the store where she works part-time, and invites her out.
Unworldly and innocent, Ana is shocked to find she wants this man. And, when he warns her to keep her distance, it only makes her want him more.
But Grey is tormented by inner demons, and consumed by the need to control. As they embark on a passionate love affair, Ana discovers more about her own desires, as well as the dark secrets Grey keeps hidden away from public view …

The first grown-up book that I read of my own accord and loved was E.L. Doctorow’s Ragtime. I was about thirteen and my school librarian, Mrs Perratai, recommended it to me. I remember she also gave me John le Carre’s Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy – which I didn’t enjoy. Thirty or more years on and I can still vividly remember Ragtime. It’s the book that really got...

Reporthave just finished 50 shades and about to start '50 shades darker' found the first one a bit of a struggle to finish, as its very repetitive, but have been assured it gets much better,so hear goes, i enjoyed the first, but just found the writing amaturish. interested to find out who 'mrs robinson 'is, talk of a film, will be interesting to see who gets the part of grey,.

ReportI can't wait to start the second book. Its so scary how I just couldn't stop reading it. The feelings shared so far explaining what they are both going through at the time of these experiences, rather than the actual acts themselves. I have experienced some unique ways of pleasure in my youth, not quite as extreme. But have always been interested in why & what it would be like. Not in my youth any more, this is helping with those enquiries. Now for more insight to why he has these needs & just how they can both live this way.

ReportIt's a pretty dirty book but that's what kept me so interested.I really enjoyed reading the book. Every page exciting, I could barely put it down. I think the dark side of Christian Grey was really interesting though not much is said, but I'm about to begin reading the second book and I hope more things are revealed about his past.

ReportI work in a newsagency/bookstore and every day a customer would point out this book, make a comment and when we sold out, continually ask for (I was oblivious of its content). It annoyed me and my curiosity got the better of me. Within three days I consumed this book and was left hanging by thread, even in my dreams. In hope that Christian would spill the beans as though I were Ana and fill me with a joy that would forever relinquish an aching heart. I now must wait an agonising two weeks before book two is in my hands and I to be engulfed by the passion, magic, quirky romanticism and tummy tingling moments to come.

ReportI devoured all three books in less than a week. I was captivated, consumed and lost in the words, it was a true escape. I have read lots of positive and a few negative comments about the book and I have to agree with most of them. It was an easy ready but it's the story line is thrilling with the non-stop drama and erotic scenes that keep you hooked. I have described it as a really long mills and boon book but much better! The biggest annoyance would be the contrast reference to her subconscious. Who would not want to be Anastasia, swept off their feet by an intelligent, beautiful and young billionaire with issues? Maybe E L James could maybe write another trilogy of Fifty Shades from the perspective of Christian...just a thought...as I was left wanting more!! Thanks for the fantastic read!

ReportOMG!!!!! I loved it!! I was told to read it by a few of my girlfriends who had already read the books. I wasn't sure if I should read it as it wasn't my style of book. However I caved in and started reading..... Once I got into it I couldn't put it down. I ended up reading all 3 books in 2 days..... The book has romance, action and sex... A LOT OF SEX...... The kinky stuff. I did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did. I advise all you girls out there to get a copy and start reading......

ReportI must admit it is poorly written, and the lip biting thing was exasperatingly annoying. But that isn't the point, is it? You persevere through the slow parts so that you can get to the sexy, kinky bits. I found myself wishing I was Ana, it was such a turn on.

ReportThis is one sourcy book folks! If you're a liberal thinker who enjoys light romatic, easy reads, but you are feeling kind of naughty, pick this one up. Then pick one up for all your girlfriends cause you won't be talking about anything but Christian Grey and they will all want to know why you have that goofy grin plastered to your face. Laters babe.

ReportWow what a book!!! I was advised the first 4 chapters were a little slow so I preserved and was REWARDED. It was hot and intense and made me desire to meet rhis Christian Grey. I've never been so over taken by a character in a book. I too like the above comment finished it in a couple of days, I could not put it down. As soon as I was finished and realised there were 2 other books I downloaded them too. Finished the 2nd book in 2 days and the 3rd took a little longer as I had to go back to work. I took every oppportunity to read it on my iPad and iPhone. I felt very depressed when I finished the 3rd as I wished there was more. Fabulous, easy, erotic reading!!! Thinking about starting the books again :-)

ReportIf you LOVE a great romance and don't mind, or even especially enjoy, some (actually, make that a lot of) very kinky sex scenes then I VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book. Though hugely popular and a best seller, this book has been copping some criticism for the quality of writing. Quality by whose/which standards I always wonder when I hear this kind of criticism? For me personally a great book is more about the story, the characters and the fantasy/escapism value, one that connects with me, rather than one of supposedly literary award winning quality. Though admittedly there are some cheesy lines, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and devoured it within a couple of days. Amongst other things, I found the story amusing (especially the email exchanges) and very touching with an intensely emotional ending that has left me stir-crazily impatient for the next two books, and OMG! I still have to wait another whole week and four days. "A novel that will obsess you, possess you and stay with you for ever" Well, along with only a few other books (namely The Outsiders, Twilight, the Mortal Instruments series, the Hush Hush series and the Fallen series), of the many hundreds I've read, Fifty Shades of Grey has without a doubt had that effect on me.
