Book Description
Can one tiny girl change a very big school?Alice-Miranda Highton-Smith-Kennington-Jones is waving goodbye to her weeping parents and starting her first day at boarding school. But something is wrong at Winchesterfield-Downsfordvale Academy for Proper Young Ladies. The headmistress, Miss Grimm, hasn't been seen for ten years. The prize-winning flowers are gone. And a mysterious stranger is camping in the greenhouse. Alice-Miranda must complete a series of impossible tests. Can she really beat the meanest, most spoilt girl at school in a solo sailing mission? Could she camp in the forest all on her own for five whole days and nights? Well, of course. This is Alice-Miranda, after all.

ReportOnly a few chapters away from finishing Alice-Miranda at school with my six year old, we have both thoroughly enjoyed the book immensely and are so excited about not only reading all the others in the series but also, the new Clementine Rose as well. We were so very lucky to be able to meet Jacqueline yesterday at a book talk. Jacqueline is a wonderful author who from many years' experience teaching in girls' boarding schools has developed a most delightful story and a charming young character that little girls will just love. Jacqueline was equally wonderful with the children at the talk who just ate up every word she said. Alice-Miranda is a character who, for her age, seven and one-quarter is extremely bright and endearing and would be a great role model for any child as she demonstrates very well the values of resilience, persistence, confidence and most of all, tries to see the good in everybody. Jacqueline explained yesterday that Alice-Miranda is a girl who sees everybody as being decently good and looks beyond other people's nastiness or faults as there is bound to be a reason why even the meanest of bullies act the way they do. A thrilling and intriguing book for any child or child at heart who likes a bit of adventure and mystery with loads of fun along the way. Thank you, Jacqueline.
